Project description:

The project serves to further develop, concretize and systematically adapt the SRCC strategy formulated in the WIR! concept in order to sustainably establish the research campus beyond the funding period and thus achieve the defined development goals. The WIR! start-up project thus creates the basis for the innovation activities of the SRCC. The target groups of the sub-strategies developed further in the project are the network partners, the WIR! advisory board, project participants and potential project stakeholders as well as external stakeholders such as communities along the test track or the public to be involved.

Project description:

The aim of the WIR! start-up project is to develop a smart, multimodal and networked mobility concept for a mobility area in the Chemnitz-Erzgebirge region to be defined in the course of the project. The concept is to strengthen the public transport system in the region, making best use of existing local infrastructures and, where necessary, supplementing them in a meaningful way. At the same time, the ecological and economic sustainability of mobility in the region is to be improved by making more extensive use of public and collaborative mobility services.

Project description:

In future, many innovations in the field of intelligent rail transport will use methods of artificial intelligence. However, the usual procedures for safety proofs for systems based on AI are currently lengthy or cannot be used without operation at all or only within very limited limits. Therefore, the aim of the project is to develop a general user compass for the testing and approval process in rail transport. On the other hand, the procedure serves to identify possible ways of demonstrating safety for AI procedures and to derive requirements for adapting or revising the applicable approval regulations.

Project description:

It is known from the side of the railroad companies that fuel consumption and wear and tear can vary significantly between traction units under the same conditions. This leads to higher environmental pollution and costs compared to a uniformly low consumption or wear. The aim of the project is therefore the development of an energy-efficient, low-wear and insensitive to changing operating conditions (robust) traction control system according to the railway-technical conditions for trains.

Project description:

The aim of the project is the development and realistic prototypical testing of a collective visual passenger information system. The innovative core of the development is the display of passenger information in the outer pane of railroad vehicles. The information should be visible either on the inside or outside of the vehicle - and this in an ergonomically favourable area of the human field of vision.

Project description:

The feasibility of on-board train integrity monitoring is to be investigated on the basis of a theoretical analysis and by testing using a demonstrator on freight delivery runs in the Chemnitz-Zwickau area, starting from Zwickau Rbf.
The objectives of the project are:

  • Development of a procedure for monitoring train integrity that is suitable for everyday use and railroad applications, taking into account the special conditions in rail freight traffic on the basis of a functional approach,
  • Practical testing of a demonstrator based on already investigated methods for monitoring train integrity,
  • Determination of feasibility and operational suitability on the Annaberg-Buchholz-Schwarzenberg (Erzgebirge) line (including testing of special operational cases).

Project description:

The project is to define how the 5G mobile radio standard can replace the current "GSM-R" (Global System for Mobile Communication - Rail) system in the railroad sector in the future and, in addition, how it can be used for more extensive, future areas of application in the railroad system of the future. The motivation is based on the fact that on the one hand the availability of components of the old GSM-R is becoming more and more difficult and GSM-R is approaching the end of its economic life in the foreseeable future. On the other hand, the bandwidth of data transmission with GSM-R is limited to a low value.
